F.C. Resident, Native of W. Va. Donald R. Clark Dies at 69

Donald R. Clark, 69, died peacefully at an acute care facility in Aldie, Virginia on Tuesday, Jan. 5 after a long battle with cancer. He made his career in finance at First American/First Union Bank and later at Communication Workers of America as vice president of the employee benefits department.

A native of Friendly, West Virginia, and graduate of West Virginia University at Morgantown, he came to Virginia in 1983 and made his home in Falls Church. As a young man Don was reluctant to attend college; however, his family, eager for him to attend, promised him a horse for a degree. This began a lifelong love affair with horses and the outdoors. In recent years Don served as a volunteer at Spirit Open Equestrian Program in Herndon, Virginia.

A second love affair occurred when he married his wife and soul mate of thirty years, Terry, who survives him in addition to his son, Andrew and daughter, Angela and two granddaughters, Attea and Olivia as well as brother, Carl Clark and two nephews, Brian and Brent.

A memorial is scheduled at Truro Anglican Church, 10520 Main Street, Fairfax at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28. A reception will follow the ceremony from 4 – 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Spirit Open Equestrian, 2705 West Ox Road, Herndon, VA 20171.
