Mason Row Final Vote Due Monday

The Falls Church City Council is slated to cast its final up-or-down vote Monday on the Spectrum and Mill Creek’s 4.3-acre Mason Row project on the northeast corner of W. Broad and N. West Street. The vote was deferred from December based on late changes to the proposal, and will require a five-vote “super-majority” to pass given that the Planning Commission failed to recommend is approval with a 3-3 deadlock vote last month.

At a City Council work session to review late changes to the project’s list of voluntary concessions Monday, Council members were assured that the special exception being sought would not go into effect until the commitments to build the two key commercial anchors of the project — a hotel and a multi-screen movie theater — are secured. Peter Batten of Spectrum said that the final OK from the theater group could come within two weeks and the hotel, now mulling a conference center space, could be secured within a month and a half.
