TheatreMcLean Preps to Present ‘She Kills Monsters’

TheatreMcLean, the recently renamed award-winning theater department at McLean High School, will open up its 2015-16 season by entering into the role playing realm of Qui Nguyen’s “She Kills Monsters.” The show is the first directed by new theater faculty members Chip Rome and Phillip Reid.

After her sister Tilly dies, the painfully average Agnes doesn’t know what to make of the Dungeons and Dragons notebook she left behind. In an effort to understand the gulf between them, she embarks on a quest of Tilly’s own design. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

“I think ‘She Kills Monsters‘ puts a whole new light on the Dungeons and Dragons game,” said Rachel Weatherby, the McLean student who plays the role of Lilith in the show. “It’s not just some ‘dorky’ past time, it’s actually something that’s really interesting. It requires your full imagination and creativity and is a lot of fun.”

“She Kills Monsters,” runs from December 3 – 5 in McLean High School’s Burks Theatre. All of the performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets for the show cost between $12 – $15. For more information, visit sites.google.com/site/theatremclean.
