F.C.’s Carla Maughlin to Receive Crystal Coach Award

Falls Church resident Carla Maughlin will receive the Crystal Coach Award in a pre-race ceremony before the Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, Nov. 21. Maughlin, a teacher at Lemon Road Elementary School, has mentored more than 350 girls over 24 seasons as a volunteer coach with Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia.

Crystal Coaches are an elite group of 13 Northern Virginia women who are committed to making a difference in the lives of girls. Each woman has served as a volunteer coach for ten or more seasons with Girls on the Run – an after school program, aimed at equipping girls with lifelong skills that will help them develop into strong, healthy and confident young women.

The 10-week season culminates in a celebratory 5k run with more than 5,000 girls, parents, teachers and community members completing a 3.1 mile run. For more information, visit gotrnova.org.
