A local family that hosts a haunted house in their Falls Church garage and yard every year has taken on the theme of Harry Potter’s Wizarding World. The Devlins of 3336 Hemlock Drive have transformed their property into a replica Hogwarts.
Outdoor decorations include the Forbidden Forest with large Aragog spider, Whomping Willow with a car stuck in its branches, Hagrid’s Hut, Quidditch stadium, a life-sized figure of Voldemort, and a graveyard surrounded by Dementors. Inside the haunted house props include the Chamber of Secrets doorway, Pensieve, Quidditch chest, shelf of horcruxes, portraits of all the headmasters, Mirror of Erised, a potion’s classroom and a Honeydukes candy table.
The Devlins hold an open house every Halloween for neighborhood kids who are trick and treating. In addition to candy, they also provide cupcakes, candy apples and, special for this year, “polyjuice potion” for kids. Their haunted house is now in its 13th year and has grown in size and popularity with hundreds of children coming through every Halloween. Check out our gallery of photos of the haunted house below.
