$672,000 OK’d for New H.S. Turf

By a unanimous vote, the Falls Church City Council Monday approved the expenditure of $672,000 for the replacement of the artificial turf football/soccer field and track at George Mason High School even as the fate of those facilities is up in the air pending the development of the overall 40 acre property site.

Described by Danny Schlitt of the City’s Department of Recreation and Parks as “by far the most widely used outdoor facility in Falls Church,” the current turf and track have been worn down over 10 years and could impinge on the safety of its users, including students, unless replaced.
