Metro Proposal Limits Orange, Silver Line Trips

Metro officials have drafted a “rail service optimization” plan that was presented to its Riders’ Advisory Council last week proposing a more reliable spacing of stops along the system’s lines to make them overall more efficient and to reduce the number of cars during peak hours in some areas, and increasing them in others.

For Falls Church Orange, Silver and Blue line passengers, the spacing of arrivals would jump on average from six to eight minutes. During rush hours, according to the new proposal, the Orange line trains would arrive every eight minutes, instead of six, at the Vienna/East Falls Church segment, and on the Silver line every eight minutes, instead of six, at the Wiehle/East Falls Church segment. The East Falls Church to Rosslyn segment would run every four minutes, instead of three, on the Orange and Silver line trains.
