Water Main Break Shuts Down E. Broad in Falls Church

UPDATE 8:31 p.m.:E. Broad St. has been repopened to traffic and the water main is repaired.

A water main break has shut down parts of Route 7 in Falls Church early Wednesday morning with closures continuing through evening rush hour. City of Falls Church officials report the 300 block of East Broad, from Washington St. (Rt. 29) to Cherry St., is closed in both directions because of the break. Eastbound traffic is being diverted to Annandale Rd. to Hillwood Ave and westbound traffic will be diverted to Hillwood Ave.

Fairfax Water crews are on the scene throughout the day.

Also, due to the road closure, City of F.C. school buses for Thomas Jefferson and Mount Daniel schools cannot pick up students at the regular 204 Lawton St stop. Officials suggest parents take their children to Columbia St and Cherry St. TJ pick up is at 8:22 a.m. and Mount Daniel is at 8:12. School officials expect some buses to run a little behind schedule due to the road closure.

Fairfax Water reports eight customers are without water. Customers may call Fairfax Water at 703-698-5800 during business hours, 703-698-5613 after hours.
