BB&T Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

436jamesA man was arrested last Thursday in connection with at least three bank robberies, including the robbery of the BB&T Bank on West Broad Street last Tuesday.

Cary James, a 44-year-old Florida resident, was arrested in Montgomery County after allegedly robbing a Wells Fargo in Rockville, Md. According to a press release from the Montgomery County Police Department, James allegedly robbed the Wells Fargo by handing a note to one of the bank tellers demanding money, which is the same way the BB&T Bank in Falls Church was robbed.

According to police, James tried to a take a taxi into D.C. after the Wells Fargo robbery he’s suspected of committing. Bank employees contacted Montgomery County Police, who responded to the scene of the crime and broadcast a lookout for James.

Montgomery County Police located the taxi on Old Georgetown Road, near the 270 spur, and conducted a traffic stop in which James was arrested without incident. Items identified as being used in the robbery were located in the taxi, as well as the money that had been taken.

James was taken to Montgomery County Police Headquarters for an interview and was identified as the suspect in the Oct. 21 Falls Church robbery and Oct. 17 robbery of the United Bank on Lee Highway in Arlington.
