Fairfax Supervisors Approve Funding for Columbia Pike Streetcar Design

On Tuesday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved funding for design work on the Columbia Pike Streetcar project, providing $4.2 million toward program management and engineering design contract costs over the next 12 and 18 months.

The streetcar, a joint project between Arlington and Fairfax counties, would operate for an almost five-mile stretch from Pentagon City to the Skyline area of Bailey’s Crossroads. The majority of the streetcar line would be in Arlington, with three stations in Fairfax County. The funds, paid with available state dollars, will provide for planning, environmental and preliminary engineering services.

Arlington will pay 80.4 percent and Fairfax will pay 19.6 percent of this round of costs.
