City of Falls Church Accepting School Supplies Donations

The City of Falls Church Housing and Human Services (HHS) department is holding a school supplies drive for students in need. Donations are being accepted through August 20 in the HHS office at City Hall (300 Park Ave., Room G04, Falls Church) Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. According to a City press release, the following items are needed: backpacks, binders (1”, 1.5” or 2”), dividers, double-pocket folders, spiral notebooks, graph paper notebooks, index cards, Post-it notes, pens, markers and highlighters (no crayons or pencils), pencil pouches, hand sanitizer, deodorant and tissues.

All of the donated items must be new. Gift cards to stores that sell school supplies, like Staples, CVS or Giant and donations to the School Family Assistance Program are also welcome. All donations qualify for the Virginia Department of Taxation, August Sales Tax Holiday – purchases of qualifying school supplies that cost $20 or less per item and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear that cost $100 or less will be exempt from sales tax from Aug 1 – 3.
