Saturday afternoon, the City of Falls Church honored its first-ever Recreation and Parks director, Ken Burnett, with the dedication and unveiling of a new sign at the F.C. Community Center, now named for Burnett.

Burnett, who served 28 years as the City’s director of Recreation and Parks from 1962 to 1990, oversaw the development of a year-round sports program for all ages, a year-round hobby class program, the Senior Center, Cherry Hill Farmhouse and Barn, many parks and recreational facilities, a bus trip program, and the Farmers Market. He also played a major role in the planning and construction of the Falls Church Community Center, originally completed in 1968.

The official name of the building is now the Falls Church Community Center Kenneth R. Burnett Building.
