Culmore Cleanup Returns April 26

Culmore Cleanup 2014 will take place next Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. – noon. The community-wide effort, now in its 12th year, invites volunteers to collect trash from about seven miles of streets in the Bailey’s Crossroads/Culmore neighborhoods. The event attracts about 300 volunteers annually. Volunteers are provided with gloves, water, bags, “nifty-nabbers,” and T-shirts, as well as a modest breakfast and lunch.

This year’s cleanup will start at Bailey’s Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences, whose PTA is sponsoring the event while Woodrow Wilson Library is undergoing renovation.

The Culmore Cleanup Steering Committee includes Alternative House, Bailey’s Beautification Alliance, Bailey’s Community Center, Coca-Cola Refreshments, Fairfax County Health Department, Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Hispanics Against Child Abuse and Neglect,  the office of Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross, the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads, and Woodrow Wilson Library.

Sponsors of the cleanup include City Diner, Coca-Cola Refreshments, Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center, Euro Market Mobil, Radley Acura, the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads, and Safeway.
