Raymi Artist Featured in ‘Passport’ Concert with Scissors Dance

Juan Cayrampoma from the Andean/Latin fusion group Raymi will perform with traditional Andean scissors dancers in a concert this Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at ArtSpace Falls Church. The concert is part of Creative Cauldron’s ongoing Passport to the World series of performances with international inspiration.

Cayrampoma will perform using traditional instruments such as zampoñas, mosceños, quenas, and tarkas. The danza de las tijeras (scissors dance) is an original dance from a highland region of Peru in which a pair of polished iron rods, resembling scissor blades, are wielded by dancers who perform a choreographed duel of step-dancing, acrobatics, and increasingly demanding movements.

Tickets for the performance are $20 for general admission and $18 for students and seniors. ArtSpace Falls Church is located at 410 S. Maple Ave. For more information, visit creativecauldron.org.
