Virginia State Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-Alexandria) announced today that he will seek election to the 8th District U.S. House seat of retiring Rep. Jim Moran. Ebbin said he has filed the paperwork needed to launch his campaign committee for the June 10 Democratic primary. He has joined a swelling field of Democrats who will compete for the nomination on June 10, now consisting of Former Lt. Gov. Don Beyer, State Del. Patrick Hope, State Del. Mark Sickles, State Del. Charniele Herring and businessman Bruce Shuttleworth.

“For 23 years, Jim Moran has stood for the progressive values of the people of Northern Virginia. I am proud to have been represented by him in Congress, and to have represented him in Richmond,” Ebbin said. “For over a decade in Richmond, I’ve been a strong voice for progressive values who’s gotten results.” Ebbin was first elected as a delegate in 2004, and was elected as a state senator in 2012. He is the only openly gay member of the Virginia General Assembly.
