Jaguars Cheer Squad Wins Capitol Conference Championship

337fchighcheer The Falls Church High School competition cheer squad made an explosive entrance into its new conference. On Oct. 23, in front of a large crowd at Mount Vernon High School, they performed their routine to perfection. Stunts, tumbles, flips, and catches all came together in a dynamic performance that marked Falls Church High School’s first Capitol Conference championship. The Jaguars were district champions in 2010 (when they had zero deductions and a perfect performance) and runners-up in 2011. At the Capitol Conference competition, the Jaguars had to beat opponents from Edison, Jefferson, Lee, Marshall, Mount Vernon, Stuart, and Wakefield high schools.

The cheer squad has not only dealt with new opponents in a new conference due new VHSL classifications, but has done so with a brand new coaching staff. Head Coach Bea Codjoe (a graduate of Lee High School, former cheer coach there, and current dance director for the Washington Eagles dance team) and Assistant Coach Jessica Brown were hired this fall to lead a team with many returning champions.
