City of F.C. to Host Veterans Day Ceremony

A special Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Falls Church City Veterans Memorial in front of the Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., next Monday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. The program will include remarks from keynote speaker Mary Tamaki Murakami who, along with her family, was forced into an internment camp during World War II.

Presided over by Master of Ceremonies Harry Shovlin, the event features remarks and remembrances, a tribute for those missing in action, a wreath presentation and prayer for departed veterans, and a performance of Taps by the Falls Church City Concert Band.

At this event, veterans who were recognized during the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council’s annual Veterans Picnic, held earlier this year, will again be honored. Those honorees include Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Roger Neighborgall, Veteran of the Year 2013 recipient John Johnson, and Veteran’s Best Friend recipients Robert and Emily Winterbottom.

This program was prepared by representatives of the Greater Falls Church Veterans Council including American Legion Posts 124 and 130, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Martin Leppert Sipes Post 9274, Catholic War Veterans Paul and Jacques Martin Post 1652, Falls Church Daughters of the American Revolution, Northern Virginia WWII Veterans, the Veterans Memorial Committee, and dedicated volunteers under the coordination of the City of Falls Church Recreation and Park Department.
