2,000 Readers Take Part in F.C. Summer Reading Program

It was a busy summer at Mary Riley Styles Public Library with nearly 2,000 readers of all ages signed up for the library’s summer reading program. Of those, 146 adults and 600 kids and teens successfully completed the program, together reading over 3,000 books.

The Library Foundation raffled off pairs of Kindle Fires, iPod Shuffles, and gift certificates to One More Page Books. Each prize was awarded to one teen and one adult who completed his or her summer reading goals. Additionally, local businesses Anime Pavilion, Clay Café and Studios, Doodlehopper 4 Kids, Elevation Burger, Eye Level Learning Center, Flippin’ Pizza, Foxes Music Co., Lazy Sundae, One More Page Books, Original Pancake House, Victory Comics, and Zinga Frozen Yogurt donated coupons that were awarded to kids who read on their own and teens who finished the summer reading program.

The library also hosted 65 different programs during the summer months, with a little over 3,000 attendees taking part. One such program was the PlayDate Café – a program for children, birth to 24 months, and their caregivers, which Starbucks at Falls Plaza provided the coffee for.

Together, 102 teens logged a total of 382 hours volunteering with the library’s programs.
