Legion Post 130 Baseball Team Places 4th in District

The Falls Church American Legion Post 130 baseball team recently concluded its 2013 campaign with a 14-12 record, finishing fourth overall. As expected, Vienna Post 180, with NCAA Division III and Division I Club level pitching, rolled to a seventh consecutive American Legion District 17 championship, besting Arlington Post 139 DI-signed pitcher John Yoest (William and Mary) in the championship game, 10-1.

With the season’s conclusion, Post 130 bids farewell to several players who finished their final season of eligibility. Phil Morse (Shenandoah University) pitched almost one third of all innings for Post 130 and maintained an ERA under 3.0 for the season. Hardy Cox (University of Missouri) and Hayden Hall (James Madison University) return to two of the top club baseball programs in the country, while Michael Evans (James Madison University), Jack Gomersall (VMI), Jack Fant (Wheaton College), and John Todd (Guilford College) enter the world of NCAA Division 1 and III baseball next spring.

For several players, this was the culmination of their youth baseball experience representing Falls Church. They played as rivals in McLean, Falls Church, and Mason District Little League only five or six years ago, but came together this season as teammates to represent the community.

While the season may not have lived up to expectations, players and parents thoroughly enjoyed the season and look forward to Post 130’s 2014 season. Players interested in trying out for the 2014 team should contact Coach Ray Zdancewicz at rayz@abacustech.com
