F.C.’s Sam Waters Reports His Cancer is Back

Sam Waters, a Falls Church resident and 2011 graduate of George Mason High School with a promising future as an operatic singer, announced on his Facebook page Monday that his cancer has relapsed. Now a student at Rice University who turned 20 last month, he won regional High School Cappies honors for Best Male Vocalist for his lead role in Mason High’s award-winning production of “Les Miserables.”

He reported Monday that the rhabdomyosarcoma cancer he first encountered in the spring of 2011 that was put into remission a year ago after almost a year of chemo and radiation therapy, returned. Waters was the subject of a feature story in the January 26, 2013 edition of the News-Press about his pursuit of a career as an operatic singer. Waters reported it is likely he will have to leave Rice to return home to resume chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
