3 Month Extension on Anthony’s Lease

The historic Anthony’s Restaurant in the 300 block of W. Broad Street, a City icon since 1972, has been given a short extension of its lease that was due to be expired by the end of March, according to owner Anthony Yiannarakis. The lease has been extended to June 10, and then may be extended beyond that date, or not.

The property on which the restaurant stands is due to redevelopment by Rushmark Properties as part of a large-scale mixed use project anchored by a full-sized Harris Teeter grocery store, but that project awaits final approval by the Falls Church City Council. Yanniarakis said that the developer’s plans for a restaurant on the site will preclude Anthony’s because of the cost.
