Marshall High Gets Virginia Tech Science Kit

George C. Marshall High School has been selected to receive a Biotech-in-a-Box kit from the Fralin Life Science Institute at Virginia Tech.

The boxes offer local instructors the use of materials and equipment to conduct a variety of science experiments in their classrooms.

This week and next, students in Julie Veenstra’s class will use the Introduction to Immunology box to explore the use of antibodies as tools in diagnostic tests. Students will learn about how disease spreads, using techniques common in medical and forensic fields.

Kits are available to Virginia high schools and community colleges and, since the launch of the program in 1994, more than 100,000 students have been able to use the kits.
