Marathon Runners to Take to F.C. High Track Sept. 1

The Arlington-based Safety and Health Foundation is organizing the first-ever Last Track to Boston marathon on the outdoor track at Falls Church High School for Sept. 1.

The event has been designed to give runners a final chance to qualify for the 2013 Boston Marathon.

The race consists of 105 and a half laps around the 400-meter all-weather-surface track. The event is limited to 25 entrants. Already entered are four experienced marathoners: Eugene Fritzel, 62, of Lutherville, Md.; Kenneth Kent, 44, of McLean; Edward Gerard Keller, 50, of Topeka, Kansas; and Jay Jacob Wind, 62, of Arlington.

For shade, organizers will position tents all around the track, covering tables with water and athletic beverages.

The marathon will start at 3 p.m. The inside perimeter of the track will be marked with cones around the turns to make certain that competitors run the full 26.2-mile distance.

The cost to register is $55 by Aug. 15, $65 by Aug. 29, and $80 on the day of the race.

Falls Church High School is located at 7521 Jaguar Trail, Falls Church.
