F.C. Resident ‘TF’ Ting Dies at Age 76

Tien Foo “TF” Ting died June 15 at age 76. Born in Shanghai, China, TF was a longtime resident of Falls Church.

He was the beloved husband of Melanie (Hoy) Ting (for 26 years) and the late Dorothy (Wong) Ting, and devoted father to Bernie Karen Ting, of Berkeley, Calif., and Brandon Kent Ting and Benson Kirby Ting, both of Falls Church.

TF was the proud son of the late Gin Kwun Ting, a Yangtze Patrol sailor and U.S. Navy veteran, and Shu Yin Ting. A graduate of the American School in Manilla and City College of San Francisco, TF served his adopted country overseas in numerous Foreign Service assignments in Asia, from 1967 through 1994.

In retirement, TF served as a volunteer with USO, Traveler’s Aid, Homestretch, and the Falls Church Homeless Shelter.

TF is also survived by siblings Sadie Wong (Shanghai, China), Jane Lee (Millbrae, Calif.), Gary Ting (Alhambra, Calif.), and Betty Leung (Walnut Creek, Calif.). He was predeceased by Maria Dong (Seville, Spain). Funeral services will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Colma, Calif., at 2 p.m. on June 23. Arrangements are pending for a memorial service in Falls Church at a later date.
