Winning Tuesday’s 8th Congressional District Democratic primary with 74 percent of the vote, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran turned his attention to a November general election campaign in pursuit of an 11th term in Congress. Former Virginia Governor George Allen also won a statewide Republican primary handily, qualifying to face off against Democratic U.S. Senate nominee former Governor Tim Kaine in November.
Moran issued a victory statement Tuesday night that included the following: “I want to thank my campaign staff and all the volunteers who put in the hard work making tonight’s victory possible. We ran a strong race focused on the issues that matter to northern Virginians: protecting the environment, supporting public transit, standing up for women’s rights, protecting Medicare and Social Security, and the list goes on. With this momentum, we move forward to the general election where our focus will be not only on ensuring our race goes as planned, but to help reelect the President and send Tim Kaine to the Senate. Northern Virginia is the premier battleground over which this election will be fought.”
