Tim Brooks, George Mason High School Class of 2008, is a member of a student research team from James Madison University that will compete in the eighth annual National Sustainable Design Expo on the National Mall this weekend.
Last fall, Brooks’ five-member team won a $15,000 People, Prosperity and the Planet award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its design of an industrial-level compost facility.
The team will present its final prototype and compete for an additional $90,000 grant during the expo, which is part of Earth Day activities on the Mall.
Brooks is a senior in the JMU sustainable engineering program.
