Tree and Shrub Pruning Workshops Set for January

Two workshops on winter pruning of trees and shrubs, sponsored by Virginia Cooperative Extension with the support of Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia and Tree Stewards of Arlington/Alexandria, have been scheduled for this month.

These workshops will provide hands-on experience in pruning trees and shrubs. Participants can learn when to prune and how to use pruning tools to make cuts, reduce size and shape, and correct defects.

Those taking part should bring their own pruning tools (hand pruners, lopping shears, pruning saws) if available and dress warmly for working outside.

Workshops will take place Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. – noon, at Arlington Central Library, 1015 N. Quincy St., and Jan. 15, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., at Ben Brenman Park, 5000 Duke St, Alexandria.
