Harris Teeter Option Returns to F.C.

At an open meeting of the Falls Church City Council’s Economic Development Committee at F.C.’s City Hall recently, a fresh proposal to locate a Harris Teeter grocery store in downtown Falls Church was discussed, and the matter is current in negotiations with the City.

The plan, coming from the development firm JGB, the group that put the BJ’s Wholesale Club in Falls Church last year, would locate a Harris Teeter on the ground floor, beneath residential rental units above it, and would be located on property currently owned by the City including the parking lot of the old post office and the vacant so-called Podolnick Property next to it. It would amount to a recasting of a small portion of the $315 million City Center plan approved by the F.C. Council in 2008, which came to a standstill because of the interceding recession. The Harris Teeter component comes from that old plan, along with the use of the City-owned land. There is no word from City Hall about when this new plan may be made more public.
