Sleepy Hollow Students Take Part in Global Experiment

Students in Sheila Asbury’s fifth grade science classes at Sleepy Hollow Elementary School will put their school on the world map – the Global Water Experiment Map.

As part of the International Year of Chemistry 2011 (IYC), so designated by the United Nations, Asbury’s students will measure acidity and other properties of Lake Barcroft in Falls Church, and post them to the IYC global water map Thursday. They will then view their data on the world map and compare it with results in other countries.

Asbury will receive a certificate from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization for her participation in the experiment.
Classrooms and community groups may conduct the experiments and add data to the IYC map through December 2011. Visit acs.org/water2011 for more details.
