X-Country ‘Stangs Take 1st & 2nd at District Meet

The George Mason High School girls and boys varsity cross country teams brought home first and second place, respectively, in the Bull Run District Meet Oct. 26.
The first-place finish makes the fourth in a row for the girls team.

In a field of more than 50 runners, Michele de Mars placed second (20:05), Julia Estrada placed third (20:09), Eva Estrada placed fifth (21:01), Emma Vieillescazes placed sixth (21:05), Lauren Meinhart placed seventh (21:11), Hannah Beaman placed 13th (21:40), and Lu Sevier placed 15th (22:04). All seven earned All-District honors.

The boys team, also amongst more than 50 runners, placed second behind the Strasburg High School team. Jesse Schaffer placed fourth (17:06), Paul Sanders placed eighth (17:52), Austin Gogal placed ninth (17:52), Jeremy M. Brown placed 10th (17:58), Paul Henninger placed 18th (18:23), Custer Truman placed 19th (18:25), and Jeremy K. Brown placed 20th (18:34).

According to Coach Julie Bravin, despite injury and illness the Mason runners performed admirably.

“I am so proud to coach both of these teams,” Bravin said. “They work so hard and really pull together as a team.”

The top four finishing teams at the district meet moved on to the Region B meet last Wednesday at Panorama Farms. Results were not available at press deadline.
