Falls Church, Winter Hill Resident John Melton Dies

Longtime Winter Hill resident John D. Melton passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011. He was a dedicated father, a passionate genealogist and a hard-working member of Winter Hill Condominium Association’s Board of Directors.

Melton was “someone who sought to fulfill the needs of the community and keep it a wonderful, close-knit place to live. This community will most certainly sorely miss him,” a Winter Hill board member said in a statement.

It continued, “With his sense of humor, his quirky wit, and his friendly easygoing nature, John contributed immensely to the Winter Hill and Falls Church sense of community. Some residents of Winter Hill even report that he was the first neighbor to welcome them after they moved in. It would not be an exaggeration to say that John embodied many of the values we associate with Falls Church.”

The Board of Directors continued:

“We, the Board of Directors of the Winter Hill Condominium Association, would like to commemorate John Melton and express our sadness that our neighbor and friend is gone. Whether you had the great fortune of knowing John or not, one way to celebrate his memory would be to take the time to meet your neighbors, if you haven’t already. Just say hello. Make sure that if something happened and they needed your help (or just a cup of sugar), they would be comfortable asking you. “
Services will be held this Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 1 p.m. at National Funeral Home in Falls Church.
