School students in grades 2-6 who score 95 percent or higher on standardized state or national tests are eligible to take the School and College Abilities Test to screen for the program. Caleb scored higher than 90 percent of all fourth grade students who took the SCAT that year. He was honored at the Hopkins academic awards ceremony at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg on Oct. 9, 2010, for this achievement.

Caleb will study advanced geography in a program called “Journeys and Explorations.” Annie, who will be in her fourth year of the Johns Hopkins Program, will study forensic science this year.

Caleb and Annie are the son and daughter of Howard and Mary Mertz Parnell of Falls Church.
