DePalma, a McLean resident, spoke on “Practicing Medicine in Changing Times: Surgery and Current Health Care Dilemmas.” He also spoke of personal experiences, first as a general practitioner and later as a vascular surgeon, as recounted in his books, Practicing and Other Stories (2004) and Chief Complaints: Surgery and Dilemmas in Health Care (2010).
