fallen102treeLast night’s storms knocked down a tree on Broadmont Terrace, which took with it some power lines and has left many on the block without power.

The tree, located on Ulrike Patzl and Kit Traub’s 1000-block Broadmont Terrace property, fell across North Tuckahoe Street at about 3 a.m. this morning, Traub said.

With the tree came power lines and a pole, and Dominion Virginia Power has been working to restore power throughout the morning.

According to Le-Ha Anderson, a Dominion representative, 97 customers were without power at 3:05 a.m.

“We were able to do what we call switching, which is basically rerouting electricity so we can get customers back on before we make repairs,” Anderson said. Through that process, power was restored to all but 17 customers.

For those last homes, the line and pole will need to be resorted before they can receive power, and Anderson said that should happen between 1 and 3 p.m.

Dominion workers on the scene estimated that the tree was about 60 feet long.

According to Traub, the City was very responsive in dealing with the matter.
