Lady Mustangs Beat E. Rockingham in Regional Championship Game

The George Mason High School girls basketball team became regional champions after defeating East Rockingham, 57-34, at Spotswood tonight.

After beating Strasburg High School in the quarterfinals and Clarke County in the semifinals easily, 68-33 and 65-19 respectively, the Lady Mustangs faced East Rockingham in the regional championship at Spotswood Saturday night.

With the victory, Mason advances to the state quarterfinals. The Lady Mustangs are looking for their third consecutive Virginia High School League (VHSL) Division 2 championship.

Last season, the ‘Stangs defeated the Region A runner-up Northampton in the state quarterfinals, 70-19, advancing to the final four.

This season, the region A champion plays the region B runner-up on Friday or Saturday, March 4-5. The winner will be playing at VCU Siegel Center on Friday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m. for the state semifinals.
