Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred around 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in a parking lot in the 5800 block of Columbia Pike at the Bailey’s Crossroads Shopping Center. An investigation determined the pedestrian, Danny Robert Sullivan, 55, of Moncure Ave. in Falls Church, was walking through the parking lot near the entrance of the shopping center. It appears Sullivan, who walked with a cane, attempted to step up on the curb. He lost his balance and fell backward into a travel lane of the parking lot.

A 1999 Ford box truck driving through the parking lot struck Sullivan. The 52-year-old man driving the truck stopped immediately. Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither speed nor alcohol are factors in the crash. No charges are anticipated.
