Shields: Property Values Rising Above September Projections

In a live interview on Falls Church News-Press Live tonight carried on Falls Church Cable TV, F.C. City Manager Wyatt Shields noted that both residential and commercial real estate values are rising to levels above those projected in September, but said the coming fiscal year budget will still be plagued by zero-growth projections for revenues.

Shields’ comments came in advance of Tuesday night’s unveiling by F.C. Schools Superintendent Dr. Lois Berlin of her recommended budget for the City schools for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1. It is expected that Berlin’s proposed budget will call for draconian cuts in the face of larger-than-expected enrollment growth in the City’s four schools. Shields will be joined by Berlin and F.C. Mayor Nader Baroukh in a special meeting with the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School PTA to explain the budget parameters for the coming year at the MEHMS cafetorium Wednesday night, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m.
