F.C.Mulls Options on Affordable Housing Offer from Akridge

Given two options in a proffer from the Akridge Company, developers of the prospective large scale mixed-use Gateway project on N. Washington St., the Falls Church City Council in its work session tonight discussed the merits of either accepting eight units in the Gateway to be designed for affordable housing, or accepting $1.3 million in cash. Pam Doran, director of Housing and Human Services for Falls Church, presented a draft policy document to the Council which suggested that in the current market, $1.3 million could be leveraged to provide loans for 14 to 20 households. No decisions were made tonight.
