Mason Mustang Girls Soccer All-Decade Team Announced

George Mason High School girls’ soccer coaches recently compiled an All-Decade soccer team for the period of 2000 through 2009. During the decade, the team won four state championships (2002, 2004, 2008, and 2009) and finished as the state runner-up once (2003), a tremendous feat especially since state championships in Group A were not held until 2002.

Selections are listed below by position along with graduation dates and accomplishments.

Megan Wilhelm (2003) – Goalkeeper – Net minder for the 2002 state championship and 2003 state runner-up teams

Alex Pender (2006) – Goalkeeper – Goal tender for the 2004 state championship team and the 2005 final four team. Missed her senior year due to injury

Nicole Mitchell (2010) -Goalkeeper – In the net for the 2009 state champions (outside the decade – goalie on 2010 state champs as well)

Elizabeth Falkey (2001) -Defender – Terrific defender during the pre-state tournament era; helped lead team to first regional berth

Caitie Flaherty (2002) -Defender – All-State player on 2002 state championship team

Rachel Sweeney (2005) -Defender – Four-year starter; All-State 2nd team in 2004, All-State 1st team in 2005. Played four years at Division I Stetson University.

Tegan Argo (2009) – Defender – First team All-State in 2009; exceptional technical skills

Abby Stroup (2009) – Defender – All-State selection her junior and senior years; tenacious leader

Christina Sedney (2003) – Mid-Fielder – First team All-State in 2003. Stalwart who played soccer and tennis in the same season

Alison Penland (2004) – Mid-Fielder – Three-time first team All-State and State Player of the Year in ‘03. Played at Division II University of Tampa (national champions in ‘07)

Katie Turner (2007) – Mid-Fielder/ Forward – All-State honoree; great goal soccer; played at Division I College of Charleston

Rachel Kazman (2008) – Mid-Fielder – Two-time All-State selectee; outstanding work ethic

Olivia Scott (2008) – Mid-Fielder – Two-time All-State honoree; Region B Player of the Year (2008); plays at Division III Messiah College where she contributed to national championships in 2008 and 2009

Kim Kenny (2009) – Mid-Fielder – Four-year All-State selectee; State Player of the Year (2009); crafty and talented player with terrific vision

Karen Hamill (2010) – Mid-Fielder – Four-year starter; incredibly hard worker and dedicated leader

Violet Miller (2011) – Mid-Fielder/Forward – First team All-State as a freshman and sophomore; exceptional goal scorer; will play at Division I University of Richmond (outside the decade-State Player of the Year in 2010)

Elle Silverman (2011) – Mid-Fielder – Second team All-State as a freshman; first team All-State as a sophomore; outstanding play-maker; will play at Division III Vassar College

Kendra Webb (2002) – Forward – Field general and crucial goal scorer for the first state championship team

Becky Roa (2004) – Forward – Three-year All-State selection; four-year starter with numerous multiple goal games in her career

Leah Roth (2012) – Forward – All-State honoree as a freshman when she led state championship team in goals (was a member of six state championship teams as a freshman and sophomore)

 


The George Mason High School boys soccer All-Decade team will appear next week.
