F.C. Child Dies After Allegedly Being Thrown From Sixth-Floor Walkway by Grandmother

Police say a 2-year-old from Falls Church died early this morning after her 50-year-old grandmother allegedly threw her from a sixth-floor outdoor walkway at Tysons Corner Center yesterday.

Around 7:10 p.m., the fire department was called with a report that a child had fallen from the walkway. The child, Angelyn Ogdoc, was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police also responded to the scene. Police say the woman, Carmela Dela Rosa, was walking out of the mall to a parking garage with the victim and other family members. A police spokesperson said that Dela Rosa was the child’s grandmother.

For a reason unknown to police, the suspect picked up the child and allegedly threw her over the edge of the walkway. All family members remained at the scene. Around 4:30 a.m., homicide detectives were notified that the victim succumbed to her injuries.

Dela Rosa was originally charged with aggravated malicious wounding and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. According to police reports, those charges were ammended to murder.

According to the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Dela Rosa had an arraignment this morning and is currently being held without bond. A preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 4, and she has been given a court-appointed attorney.
