F.C. City Resident Dies from Burn Wounds Sunday Morning

A female Falls Church City resident not yet identified by City Police died of burn wounds at 3:30 a.m Sunday at the Washington Hospital Center. F.C. Police and Arlington Fire and Rescue services arrived at a condominium in the 300 block of James Street in the City at 1:47 p.m. last Saturday afternoon in response to an emergency report of a woman on fire at the location. Upon arrival, officers found a female, in her 50s, leaning against the outside wall of the residence, underneath of spigot with water running over her body. She had second and third degree burns over 70 percent of her body. Rescue units transported the woman to the T.J. Elementary School on S. Oak Street and there she was taken by a Med Star helicopter to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

ARL.now is reporting the Falls Church Police and the Arlington County Fire Marshal are investigating the incident as a possible suicide, according to Arlington Chief Fire Marshal Benjamin Barksdale.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and police said they’re withholding the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
