Mason All-Decade Cross Country Announced

George Mason High School announced its All-Decade team for the boys and girls cross country teams last week. Mason coaches made the selections based on performance and accomplishments during the 2000-2009 school years.

George Mason High School announced its All-Decade team for the boys and girls cross country teams last week. Mason coaches made the selections based on performance and accomplishments during the 2000-2009 school years.

The team joins previously announced Mustang All-Decade teams for wrestling, boys and girls soccer and, most recently, baseball.

The All-Decade cross country team selections are as follows (graduation dates in parentheses):

• Girls Cross Country

Annie Maynard (2003) – Dominated the district and region her junior and senior years; two-time district champion; two-time region champion; All-State (6th place).

Jessica Karnis (2001) – All-District, All-Region and All-State (placing 13th) during her senior year.

Susanna Sullivan (2008) – Four-year force in the district, region and state; four-time All-District, All-Region and three-time All-Sate; district and region champion her senior year; placed 3rd in 2005, 3rd in 2006 and 2nd in 2007 at the state meet; runs at the University of Notre Dame.

Mollie Breen (2011) – Three-time All-District and All-Region and two time All-State (15th and 11th); played a major role in the first girls’ State Champion Cross Country Team in 2008; scored repeat championship title in 2009.

Eva Estrada (2011) – Played an important role in the first girls’ State Champion Cross Country team in 2008; led team in its repeat championship title in 2009; All-District, All-Region and All-State (5th and 3rd) both years.

Natalie Young (2012) – Led the team to the girls’ first State Championship Cross Country team in 2008; All-District, All-Region and All-State (3rd).

• Boys Cross Country

Jimmy Brock (2001) – Key part of resurgence of Mason boys cross country; All-State, All-Region and State qualifier his senior year.

Orie Bumgarner (2004) – Three-time All-District and two-time All-Region; All-State (13th) his senior year; played important role in team’s 2003 State runner-up finish as team captain.

Andrew Montgomery (2004) – Dominated cross country course from the start of his running career; four-time All-District, All-Region and All-State (4th, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd); two-year captain; top runner at Virginia Tech.

Jon Byers (2005) – Member of the 2003 State runner-up team; three-time All-District; All-Region and All-State (15th) his senior year.

John Sullivan (2005) – Member of 2003 State runner-up team; two-time All-District and All-Region his senior year; State qualifier (18th).

Miles Butler (2010) – Four-time All-District athlete; All-Region in 2007; top finisher in Mason’s State team in 2007 and 2008.
