Representatives of Dominion Virginia Power outlining the utility’s plans for installing new digital “smart meters” in almost every household in the City of Falls Church, including areas of North Arlington and Fairfax’s Mason District, drew interest and enthusiasm from the Falls Church City Council at a work session Monday night.

“You will find that Falls Church will be an active and willing partner” with the effort, stated Councilman Dan Maller. City Manager Wyatt Shields said that following extended power outages in F.C. neighborhoods resulting from a series of violent storms in June 2008, the new “smart meters” will permit Dominion to know each and every house that loses power, and will also help to conserve energy by giving the user an ability to monitor energy usage more readily. Dominion crews are already in the process of visiting every home in the City to make a 20-minute switch and installation.
