Bees 13-Mudcats 12
Andy Borman’s walk-off base hit down the third-base line won the Single-A championship for the Bees. All 12 Bees either scored or drove in a run. Elise Ebert was two for two and scored twice, while Sam Musinsky went two for two, including a third-inning double that gave the Bees a 12-9 lead. In the final inning, the Mudcats used a clutch two-out hit from Joe Carpenter to close a three-run gap and tie the score at 12, but were prevented from scoring more by several fine defensive plays at pitcher from Erik Bjorklund. For the Mudcats, Evan Lawrence went three for three two doubles.
Bees 11-Raptors 8
Owen Ossman went three for three and kicked off a five-run third inning that erased a 6-4 deficit, putting the Bees ahead for good in a Single-A semifinal. Zach Otley and Simon Lundquist each went two for two. For the Raptors, Robert Newton and Daniel Wisdom each went three for three.
Bees 14-Ironbirds 8
In a quarter final matchup, Tom Ferrick three for three with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Bees to victory over the Ironbirds. Audrey Lindsay also went three for three, while Mark Barakat and Atticus Jacobs each went two for two. For the Ironbirds, Devon Boldt, Michael Nelson and Daniel Trauberman each went three for three and Joseph Nelson made four key plays in the field.
AAA
Mats 16-Marlins 13
The Mets and Marlins played a tight game with a trip to the AAA Championship on the line, with the Mets prevailing 16-13. The Marlin’s Ben Manon and the Mets’ Nicolas Hauser both turned in strong performances on the mound. The Mets benefited from timely hits by Thomas Dean, Joey Handley and Jack Goggin. The Marlins had key hits by Noah Sedmak and Henry Middlebrook. The Mets’ Ryan Barrett ended the game on a dramatic note, racing in from right field to make a great basket catch, securing the win for the Mets.
MAJORS
A’s 17-Yankees
The Majors division’s only two girl players the A’s Annie Ferguson and the Yankees’ Jessica Manning, started on the mound for their respective teams. Ferguson struck out six in two and two thirds innings of work, while helping her cause with two singles and two RBIs. Logan Nesson and Zach Welch hit back-to-back homeruns in fourth inning. Seven other A’s added hits, including Dylan Galt with a double and two RBIs, and Michael Parella with three singles and three RBIs. For the Yankees, Manning and Jack Rasmussen each singled, with an RBI apiece.
A’s 16-Red Sox 15
The A’s won a thrilling 16-15 playoff match-up against the Red Sox. The Red Sox took an early lead, and were ahead by as many as six in the third inning. But the A’s kept their bats in motion. A’s sluggers Zach Welch, Brian Nelson and Logan Nesson had three hits apiece. With the A’s trailing, reliever Annie Ferguson entered the game, striking out two batters nearly two innings of work and earning the save. Ferguson also scored the A’s winning run. For the Red Sox, Zach Lang and C.K. Kelly both had bases-clearing triples.
Orioles 13-A’s 1
The Orioles hosted the Athletics Saturday afternoon for a second round post-season playoff game. Oriole pitchers Jamie Handley and Josh Rankin combined to hold the A’s to a single run with plenty of help from the defense. Oriole batters efficiently scored despite great defense from the As, including a spectacular diving catch in centerfield by Logan Nesson. Oriole sluggers John Anderson and Jamie Handley each homered to put the game out of reach.
