Falls Church City’s George Mason High School is once again ranked one of the best schools on Newsweek‘s annual list of the top high schools in the country. Mason ranks #44 with a “Challenge Index” of 5.333 on this year’s list, and has been ranked each year since 1998. Last year, Mason was ranked #67 (4.327).

Each year, Newsweek ranks public high schools on a “Challenge Index,” calculated by dividing the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken at the school each year by the number of graduating seniors. The year, just six percent of all public schools (over 1,600) in the country made the list.

Falls Church’s Marshall High School (#200), J.E.B. Stuart (#432) and Falls Church High School (#466) and nearby McLean (#101) were also included in the rankings.

Other local schools include H-B Woodlawn (#6), Washington-Lee (#62), Yorktown (#82), W.T. Woodson (#91), Langley (#117), James Madison (#143), Oakton (#157), Fairfax (#179), Robinson (#325), West Potomac (#523), Hayfield (#539) and Annandale (#1,200).
