Josephine Sandra “Jo” Proffitt, 66, of Falls Church, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at her residence.

Proffitt was born in Smoke Hole, W.V. on May 3, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Harman Shreve and Vada Judy Shreve of Petersburg, W.V.

Proffitt was a waitress at JV’s Restaurant in Falls Church, and she attended Pendleton County Schools.

Proffitt is survived by: two daughters: Carolyn Alt-Redish, of Burke, and Bobbi Jo Flores, of Front Royal; three sons: Johnny E. Dice, of Falls Church, Gerald Alt, of Conowingo, Md. and Timothy Alt, of Charleston, W.V.; four sisters: Geraldine Dwyer, of Alexandria, Maxine Kancler, of Petersburg, W.V., Nancy LaMaster, of Upper Tract, W.V. and Marsha Carpenter, of Falls Church; three brothers: Otha Keith Shreve, of Orlando, Flor., Ronnie Shreve, of Franklin, W.V. and Dennis Shreve, of Maysville, W.V.; and ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her father, Proffitt was preceded in death by her sister, Victoria Sue Stump.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept., 26, from 1 – 5 p.m. at JV’s Restaurant, located at 6666 Arlington Blvd. in Falls Church.
