From Friday, Aug. 28 – Sunday, Aug. 30, the Falls Church High School Band Reunion Committee is inviting all Falls Church Band alumni to the Orkney Springs Hotel (221 Shrine Mont Cir., Orkney Springs) for a reunion. Featured in the weekend’s program are evening jam sessions, multi-media presentations and performances by two of the school’s most prestigious alumni, Don Lucas and Jon Lewis. Bank of America Hosts Military Family Movie Night
On Saturday, Aug. 29, Bank of America is welcoming all to the Military Family Movie Night to celebrate veterans and their families. The McLean Community Center is seeking vendors to participate in its Fall Community Flea Market to be held on Saturday, Sept. 12. Goitia Selected to Serve as Page in D.C.
George C. Marshall junior Melissa Goitia has been selected to serve as a page in the U.S. House of Representatives for the 2009 Fall Session. Page duties include delivering correspondence and legislative materials within the congressional complex.
Goitia was selected through an application process by the office of Congressman Jim Moran. She’ll be serving as a page through the first semester of the school year, and will return to Marshall at the end of January.
F.C. Gallery Announces ‘Artists Helping Others’
On Friday, Aug. 28 from 6 – 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2 from noon – 4 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 30 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. the Falls Church Gallery will be holding “Artists Helping Others.” The show and sale will benefit two local charities, Homestretch and Committee for Helping Others. F.C. Resident Ties Knots in Boulder, Colorado
Alexandre Garrison, son of Falls Church residents Mr. and Mrs. John Garrison, wed Rebecca Moyer, daughter of Mrs. Lynette Moyer of Colorado and the late Mr. Albert Moyer on June 27.
Garrison graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor’s in Architecture. The bride grew up in Blacksburg, Va. and graduated from the University of Virginia as well.
The wedding was held in Boulder, Colorado at the First Congregational Church. The couple will reside in Charlottesville, Va.

Daughter of Former F.C. Vice Mayor Weds
On Saturday, May 23, Chanin Knight, daughter of former Falls Church Vice Mayor Gary Knight and Maryann Dean, married Gregg Sangillo of Philadelphia at the Woodrow Wilson House in Washington, D.C. The reception followed at the Bumpercar Pavilion at Glen Echo Park.
The bride graduated from George Mason High School and attended New York University, the George Washington University and the Washington Art Institute. Mr. Sangillo attended Westchester College and the University of Pennsylvania.
The couple will reside in Northwest Washington after a honeymoon in the Greek Islands.
Marshall High Dance Team Receives Awards
George C. Marshall High School’s Dance Team participated in the Universal Dance Association camp at Ocean City, Maryland past July.
The members of the team received various awards, among which was the Superior Trophy, which gave them the opportunity to compete at the National Level in Orlando, Florida in February of 2010.
The members of the team are Diana Man (captain), Tayler Kenney (co-captain), Kiana Ragland, Christina Harris, Emily Austin, Emily Shibut, Jessica Baralt, Katherine Joa, Jessica Gentile, Amanda Denny, Reese Wold, Sara Bojo, Lexie Tsantes and Alisha Kusumawardhani, headed by Coach Denyse Kenney.
J.E.B. Stuart H.S. Music Department Holds Tag Day
On Saturday, Sept. 12, the music students from J.E.B. Stuart High School’s Band, Orchestra and Chorus will make their annual door-to-door visits to every house in the community to ask for contributions. The money supports uniforms, music, travel to competitions and other costs.
The students will be collecting starting at 8:30 a.m.
Schmid Elected as Pastor Emeritus at F.C. Church
The Falls Church Presbyterian Church (225 E. Broad St., Falls Church) elected the Reverend Thomas H. Schmid as Pastor Emeritus at a meeting of the Congregation on Aug. 16.

Boy Scouts America Troop Celebrates 60th Anniversary
On Saturday, Sept. 9, all current and former Troop 624 scouts are invited to join the Boy Scouts of America Troop 624 Chain Bridge District to celebrate the Scouts’ 60th Anniversary.
Mass will be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner at 7 p.m. The dinner celebration will include a slide show, skits and story telling.
