On Saturday, June 27, Colleen Elizabeth Dorgan and Nathaniel Wilson Hoover were united in marriage at the historic Wren Chapel at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. Celebrant of the nuptial mass was Rev. George Murphy.
Arlington Locals Tie the Knot in Williamsburg
On Saturday, June 27, Colleen Elizabeth Dorgan and Nathaniel Wilson Hoover were united in marriage at the historic Wren Chapel at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. Celebrant of the nuptial mass was Rev. George Murphy.
The two are both graduates of James Madison University. The bride is pursing a Master’s degree in social work, while the groom is an accountant with McGladrey & Pullen, LLP. Following the ceremony, was a reception at the Williamsburg Hospitality House.
The couple honeymooned in the tropical island of St. Lucia, and reside in Arlington, Va.
Giant to Hold Annual Tomato Contest
On Saturday, Aug. 15, the 7th Annual NatureSweet Best Homegrown Tomato Challenge will invite all gardeners to bring in their best tomatoes in both the small and large tomato categories for a chance to be a winner. Other activities at the event will include sampling of tomato recipes, a master Gardener Q & A Booth and more. F.C. Sponsors Fall for Fun Celebration
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, the City of Falls Church Housing and Human Services Division and Falls Church City Public Schools will hold the Fall for Fun Celebration. New this year are the moon bounce, chair massages and mini soccer. There will be food, crafts, games, information on school and community resources and more. Locals Graduate and Receive Awards
Deja Moore and Rachel Reich of Falls Church were named to the dean’s list at Mary Baldwin College for having achieved a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.75 for the spring 2009 semester.
James Stretch of Arlington, Samuel McCann and Marjorie Glassco of Alexandria were named to the dean’s list at Ithaca College for having achieved a GPA of at least 3.7 for the spring 2009 semester.
Amir Raminpour of Falls Church and Cameron Miller of Alexandria were named to the dean’s list at Widener University School of Law for having achieved a GPA in the top 20 percent of their class and division for the spring 2009 semester.
David Calvert of Alexandria recently graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
Young Hearts to Hold Music Fundraiser
On Saturday, Aug. 15, Young Hearts, a team of young adults fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, will be holding their 4th Annual Battle of the Bands. Local bands will compete to raise money for the team at the Kena Ballroom (9001 Arlington Blvd., Fairfax) at 4:30 p.m. Food prepared by Baja Fresh will be sold onsite. Creative Cauldron Campers To Perform
On Thursday, Aug. 13 and Friday, Aug. 14 at noon, the Creative Cauldron Arts Adventure Camp attendees will perform “Under the World’s Canopy” as a part of their closing program. Admission is free for this event.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, as well as Aug. 12 and Aug. 29, the Adventure Campers will also perform “Martin: The King of Pizza” at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for this event.

F.C. Library Entertains Children With Puppets
On Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. Kaydee Puppets will present their updated versions of all-time favorites, Bunny Tales and Rapunzel. Chamber Holds Luncheon at Dogfish in Support of F.C.
Instead of holding its usual networking luncheon, the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce is encouraging members to dine at the Dogfish Head Alehouse (6220 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church) on Tuesday, Aug. 18 to help support the Creative Cauldron and Falls Church Arts. Carlyle House Focuses on 18th Century Women
The Carlyle House (121 S. Fairfax St., Alexandria) invites all to come learn the story of a dress and the 18th century women who wore it. The highlight of the exhibit will be the recreation of the 1747 wedding dress of Sarah Fairfax Carlyle and the 1795 dress made by her daughter, Sarah Carlyle Herbert.

Doodlehopper Announces Second Location
On Saturday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug. 16, Doodlehopper will be having a grand opening celebration. Doodlehopper 4 Kids (228 W. Broad St., Falls Church), a children’s toy store, is expanding to a second store, namely Doodlehopper Too (234 W. Broad St., Falls Church).
