Creative Cauldron & FCA Partner to Raise Funds

Creative Cauldron and Falls Church Arts (FCA) are partnering to host various dinner parties/artist salons throughout the greater Falls Church area on Saturday, March 21.

The evening aims to raise funds for the 1,001 Nights Capital Campaign, which will support the groups and their artists in their new Pearson Square home. The parties include dinner and beverages for guests, along with an “artist in residence” to showcase the artist’s techniques and work.
Visual and performing artists will provide short programs during each party. Tickets are $50 per guest. As space is limited at the locations, guests are asked to RSVP by this Friday, March 13, by calling Gina Caceci at 703-593-5697. Guests should make checks out to Falls Church Arts, and write “1,001 Nights Dinner/Salon” on the memo line. The mailing address is Dinner/Salon, Falls Church Arts, P.O. F.C. Library Hosts Senior Book Discussion

The Mary Riley Stiles Public Library’s (120 N. Virginia Ave., Falls Church) monthly senior book discussion will cover Eric Weiner’s account on a person’s happiness based on where they live in “The Geography of Bliss.” Weiner worked as a National Public Radio correspondent for many years. Master Storyteller Performs At F.C. Library

Master storyteller Diane Macklin performs Animal Tail Tales at Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave., Falls Church) at 7 p.m. on March 18. Macklin performs in the African “griotic” tradition, telling world folktales and personal narratives with music, song and dance. Shelter House Holds Annual Fundraising Event

Shelter House hosts their sixth annual Casino Night and Silent Auction at the Grand Atrium (3326 Gallows Rd., Vienna) from 7:30 – 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. This event will help raise funds in order to keep their services running for homeless families in Fairfax County. Guests can enjoy casino games, raffles and more activities. Saint Patrick’s Day Celebrations Come to Town

Victorian reenactors will provide an evening of Irish literary performances at the Cherry Hill Farmhouse (312 Park Ave., Falls Church) at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Each performance will feature works from Irish authors including Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw and W.B. Yeats. There is a $4 general admission fee, and reservations are required. Dulin United Hosts Spring Tour Chorale Concert

Hip Hop Scholar Speaks at Arlington Central Library

The Arlington Central Library (1015 North Quincy St., Arlington) will feature hip hop scholar Adam Bradley from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17. In Bradley’s recent book, “The Book of Rhymes: The Poetics of Hip Hop,” he reveals the poetic traditions of hip hop by comparing present hip hop artists like Jay Z to poets such as John Keaton. Children’s Author Visits Festival at McLean Center

The 9th Annual McLean Storybook Festival will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean). Pamela Duncan Edwards, author of “Jack and Jill’s Tree House” and other popular children’s literature, will be this year’s special guest. The event is appropriate for ages 3 – 8. Jessica K. Donaldson, a resident of Falls Church, made the dean’s list at Boston University for the 2008 fall semester. Boston University is the fourth largest independent university in the United States.

F.C. Library Undertakes Teen Poetry Contest

The Mary Riley Styles Public Library (120 N. Virginia Ave., Falls Church ) is hosting their second annual Teen Poetry Contest in celebration of National Poetry Month. The contest runs through April 30, and poems can be submitted by e-mail or directly to the Youth Services Desk. The contest winner will receive a gift certificate for a book. Donated ‘Bikes for the World’ Go to Worthy Cause

Bikes for The World is sponsoring an event at Recreational Equipment Inc. (3509 Carlin Springs Rd., Baileys Crossroads) on Saturday, March 14 from noon – 4 p.m. Donate old bikes, spare parts and accessories donated overseas for transportation to jobs and schools. Bethany House Partners With Local FC Business

Bethany House of Northern Virginia is partnering with local thrift shop Joseph’s Coat (3022 Annandale Rd., Falls Church) to receive more donations in the Falls Church area for their Women’s Day Event on April 30. Gently-used household goods, furniture, lamps, pictures, beds, toys and games are some of the items needed at this thrift shop.
Bethany House is a non-profit organization assisting victims of domestic abuse in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area for more than 25 years. For furniture pick up, call 703-538-6289. F.C. Chamber Of Commerce Hosts Networking Luncheon

The Falls Church Chamber of Commerce will host their Networking Luncheon on Tuesday, March 17 from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Italian Café (7161 Lee Hwy., Falls Church). The meeting will include presentations about school/business partnerships and mentoring programs in Falls Church City, Arlington and Fairfax.
