Puppets Come to McLean Community Center
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, Jim West Puppets will come to the McLean Community Center (1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean). Children ages 4 and up can enjoy familiar Aesop Fables, such as “The Goose That Lay the Golden Egg” and “The Boy who Cried Wolf,” at the Center.

Falls Church Locals Make Dean’s List
Falls Church resident Olivia Scott was among the students at Messiah College, located in Grantham, Pa., to make the dean’s list for the fall semester. Scott is a sophomore whose major is undeclared. To be included on the dean’s list, a student must maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.6.
Messiah College was established in 1909 and is a private Christian college of the liberal arts and applied sciences.

Valentine’s Performance at Schlesinger Hall
“O’ Lover’s Voice,” a special Valentine’s program, will be presented by Opera Theatre of Northern Virginia and the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall (3001 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria). The program consists of Ravel’s one-act comic opera L’heure espagnole, “The Spanish Hour,” and the great love duets from Puccini’s “La Boheme” and “Madama Butterfly.”

McLean Rotary Hosts S. African Rotary Club
The McLean Rotary Club celebrated their eight-year relationship last Wednesday at the McLean Community Center with the rotary club in South African District 9250. The guests of honor were Albie van de Venter and his wife Elna, who are members of the White River Rotary Club in the 9250 district. The relationship between these districts began in 1998 with many achievements including The Masoyi Special Care Project and the Capricorn Therapeutic Riding Center.

Friday Morning Music Club Takes Stage in Old Town
On Thursday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m., the Friday Morning Music Club will present entertainment by violinist Cecilie Jones and pianist Marynelle Losin, performing Mozart’s “Sonata in B-flat Major.” Other performances will include pianist Elizabeth White’s rendition of Vianna’s “Miniatures on Brazilian folk tunes” and Chopin’s “Nocturne in E Major.”
Finally, soprano Peggy McNulty, accompanied by pianist Gillian Cookson, will collaborate in their presentation of selected songs by Duke and Beach. Residents are invited to Old Town Hall (3999 University Dr., Fairfax) to take in the musical morning.
Founded in 1886, the Friday Morning Music Club began with informal recitals in the homes of its members. Its object was to promote musical culture among its members and the community. Today, with more than 800 members, the concerts are held weekly from October through May in the Great Hall of the Summer School Museum and monthly at other locations in the surrounding area.
